Ajax Queens fall short against Isra Academy

Ajax Queens Football Club suffered a 2-1 loss to Isra Academy in the friendly match played at Mukono High School on Sunday.


Despite making several attempts on goal, a sloppy start meant the football Queens lost the encounter 2-1 against a resilient Isra team.


In the absence of head coach Michael Natimba who was engaged with other commitments, assistant Andrew Ssetuba took over the reigns.


The home side led 2-0 at halftime with Dorcus Namukisa and Shamira Nalujja slotting home.


Midfielder Moreen 'Monti' Afoyo had an opportunity to cut the deficit by half before the break but failed to convert a penalty with her low drive going wide.


With youngster Margaret Nalubega and goalkeeper Pamela Nakayondo limping off due to injuries, their slots were filled by Christine Kuteesa and Joan 'Baller' Namusisi respectively at the start of the second stanza.


Namubumba slotted home from a free kick as Ajax Queens stepped up their efforts to at least salvage a point.


This was her first goal in Ajax Queens jersey since joining from Rinnes in August last year.


Her effort however ended on a losing end despite Isra finishing the game a player less after Irene 'Saha' Nantege had been sent off.


Ajax Queens resume the second round of the league on Saturday 10th February away to Rinnes WFC in Wakiso.


The Football Queens are currently second in Victoria group on 13 points as they seek to reach the playoffs.
