Ajax Queens starting XI against Gafford Ladies
Ajax Queens Football Club put up a fantastic display to dispatch Gafford Ladies in the Fufa Women Elite League game played on Sunday in Kanyanya.
Two goals in the opening half of the game ensured Ajax Queens earned all three points to keep the ambitions of reaching the playoffs afloat.
This was the first ever win for Ajax Queens against Gafford Ladies with all the previous four engagements ending in stalemates.
Defender Bridget Nabisaalu gave the Football Queens an early lead in the 16th minute with a great free kick that went past Gafford Ladies goalkeeper.
Ajax Queens kept pilling pressure on the opponents and midfielder Maureen Afoyo who was playing her first game doubled the lead in the 28th minute.
A well laid pass from Nabisaalu inside her own half met Afoyo at the edge of the box who controlled with ease before slotting home.
Ajax Queens had more chances in the second half with the best effort falling to skipper Rukia Namubiru but the goalkeeper was well positioned to save.
Afoyo almost curled a corner kick into goal but Gafford Ladies goalkeeper once again tipped the ball over the crossbar.
Coach Michael Natima made the first change introducing Gloria Ayikol who was making her debut for Dorothy Nalukwago.
In stoppage time, goalkeeper Gloria Namakula collided with a Gafford Ladies player and was stretched off and replaced by Pamela Nakayondo.
The result means Ajax Queens move to second position in Victoria group on seven points in three games.
The next game will be at home(Buddo SS) to Kawempe Muslim on 18th November.
